Tamil leaders optimistic about discussions with President – PLOTE leader

The recent discussion between the Northern Tamil political parties and president Ranil Wickremesinghe was highly productive, leader of the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), Dharmalingam Siddarthan said.

He added that most issues faced by the Tamil people could be solved during future meetings with the president.Siddarthan said that the Northern Tamil political parties started discussions with the Presidnet on 11 May. Three separate discussions are to be held, he added.

“During the first meeting with the president we discussed in depth the problem of Tamil political prisoners, land issues faced by northerners and the prevention of terrorism act. We also spoke about the issues with regards to places of worship in the North,” he said.

Siddarthan said in the coming two meetings the two sides will discuss the devolution of power to the North and East and other Tamil political issues.

“Tamil leaders, in general, are very optimistic about these discussions,” he said.
