The Attorney General has filed cases in the Gampaha High Court against 42 persons over the killing of SLPP MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala (Polonnaruwa District) and his security officer on 09 May 2022.

They were killed at Nittambuwa while on their way to Polonnaruwa after attending a meeting at Temple Trees, chaired by the them Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa
