Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa wanted to sit in the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) as he has no confidence on its Chairman Dr. Harsha de Silva who was appointed by the Opposition leader, Parliamentarian Diana Gamage said today.
Speaking during the debate on the domestic debt restructuring, the MP told Parliament that the Opposition was harping on the fact that the COPF Chairmanship should be given to the Opposition and somehow got Dr. Silva appointed to the position.
“The Opposition Leader wanted to appoint a member of his party as the COPF Chair. Dr. Silva was appointed to the position. Now, the Opposition Leader also wants to sit in the committee and wants to speak in the committee as well. He can’t trust Dr. Silva on what he would do. That is why, he also wants to sit in the committee,” she said.
The MP said the Opposition should support the President’s efforts in rescuing the country from the economic crisis without pulling him by his legs. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
